Acclaimed photographer and environmentalist Sebastiao Salgado is the subject of filmmaker Wim Wenders’ moving documentary ‘The Salt of the Earth’ which showcases his stunning images of war-torn countries and breath-taking natural landscapes while paying tribute to the man himself.

Having received Oscar nominations for films ‘The Buena Vista Social Club’ and ‘Pina’, Wenders once again demonstrates his ability to produce powerful documentaries with his latest film about the Brazilian photographer Salgado made with the help of Salgado’s son Juliano. The film charts his career visiting hostile regions including the Gulf and Rwanda where his images captured the depth of human suffering, only later turning his attention to environmentalism and nature photography as a balance to the dark subject matter of his earlier work.

Wenders’ stirring narration makes for a fitting tribute to an amazing talent.

‘The Salt of the Earth’ will be screened at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Wednesday, October 14th at 8pm.

Tickets are priced at €9 (€7 concession and €5 for fim club members).
