Clonmel World Music will proudly present JP Harris & The Tough Choices (Nashville, USA) in concert at the Raheen House Hotel in Clonmel on Thursday, May 28th.

The band are currently on a long European tour which will take in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Norway and the UK.

The tour will finish with seven dates in Ireland which Clonmel World Music is proud to have organised.

JP Harris and the Tough Choices play good old-fashioned country music, with plenty of attitude.

The Tough Choices are a hot five-piece band with electric guitars, electric bass, drums and pedal steel.

When The Tough Choices began there were only two rules: keep it country and keep it simple. They have done both, drawing on influences ranging from early Western Swing to rough-edged Truck Driving ballads; Bob Wills all the way to Merle Haggard.

JP’s influences don’t seem to draw from any music that came out after 1974. The most overt influences echo Buck Owens and particularly George Jones and Hank Williams. JP Harris has one of the best young voices in the Honky Tonk tradition of country music, singing in a deep baritone voice. He is joined on this tour by four top class young local Nashville musicians, who make up The Tough Choices.

A well-traveled troubadour despite being scarcely over thirty JP left home in Alabama at the age of 14 to travel the country via freight train with his guitar in tow. Over his four vagabond years JP wound up in California before moving through Louisiana and finally settling in Nashville which is the closest he can call to a permanent home.

Doors for the gig will open at 8pm. There will be no support act and the band will start at 9pm prompt. Tickets are €15 each and are available from the Premier Music Centre in Clonmel on 052 612 9811, from Gerry Lawless on 086 338 9619 and from Martha Beardmore on 087 910 7201.
