Following an appearance at the West Cork Music Festival the Irish Chamber Orchestra has taken to the road again with a very special dance collaboration. Leader Katherine Hunka directs the ICO’s Feet First Tour which offers a kaleidoscopic range of music combining old with vibrant new sounds. The Irish Chamber Orchestra is one of the country’s foremost cultural ambassadors and is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland. Based at the University of Limerick, it performs a concert season in Limerick and Dublin (September-April), tours countrywide twice yearly alongside international tours across Europe, Australia, South Korea, China, Singapore and the US.
Internationally renowned dancer Colin Dunne collaborates for the first time with the orchestra. Renowned for his performances in Riverdance and Dancing on Dangerous Ground, he dances the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s latest commission (a world premiere by Kinsale-born composer, Linda Buckley). This visually captivating dance, The Turn – Dance in Your Blood, was inspired by Icelandic poet, Rumi.
