Dromineer Festival Takes To The Lake

For this year’s Dromineer Literary Festival, the event afloat is entitled The Living Lake. Scientists Rick Boelens and Dan Minchin will give a talk on the hidden depths of Lough Derg; its biodiversity and environmental heritage.

For this year’s Dromineer Literary Festival, the event afloat is entitled The Living Lake. Scientists Rick Boelens and Dan Minchin will give a talk on the hidden depths of Lough Derg; its biodiversity and environmental heritage.

Dan and Rick are founding members of ‘The Lough Derg Science Group’ and are marine biologists. On board ‘The Spirit of Killaloe’ the passengers will be given an account of the hidden depths of Lough Derg, what life forms thrive in her and even those invasive species that have found a home too.

On Saturday at, 4pm, boat builder Jimmy Furey, aged 85 years, will attend, as our special guest, a talk by David Shaw-Smith on the making of his and his wife Sally’s acclaimed documentary series Hands. The event will be introduced by the commodore of Lough Derg Yacht Club, Lucy Sanders.
