Terryglass Festival Dishes Up Plenty Of Nighttime Fun

The fun starts on Wednesday, August 17, when award winning comedian Aindrias de Staic performs the opening gig of the festival in the Pop Up Playhouse in Terryglass Square at 9pm. His one man show, Around the World on 80 Quid, features a cross between contemporary Irish storytelling, variations of world music (from Irish tunes to Gypsy, Italian, Greek and jazz) and lashings of comedy.

Thursday is the night for emerging artists as young local bands The Beard of Zeus, Raffiki, and Auto Pilot take to the stage of the Pop Up Playhouse. Loosely based on Oxegen, the event, Nite-ro-gen, features the best of local talent and Today FM’s Bob Conway will be the MC.

For those more interested in the culinary arts, there is a real treat in store in the Derg Inn on Thursday evening with The Art of Food and Wine. Hosted by artisan food promoter and consultant Peter Ward, the event, which begins at 6pm, includes tastings of cheese with accompanying wines.

Friday night sees multi-platinum award winning Tommy Fleming perform what promises to be a magical and unforgettable concert in Terryglass Church.

Continuing the music theme, the Drawing Room Opera Company presents Highly Strung a captivating mix of high drama, laughter and operatic vocals! Bringing classical music where no woman has gone before, singer /comedian Liz Ryan will go straight to the hearts and laps of the audience with thought provoking questions Violinist Istvan Barnacz restores balance with thrlling virtuoso violin showpieces such as Monte- Czardas. And its all taking place at the quay on Saturday night and in Terryglass Square on Sunday afternoon.
