‘Museum Hours’ will be screened at The Source Arts Centre on Wednesday, February 5th at 8pm.
Filmmaker Jem Cohen provides a thought-provoking narrative on art and how it reflects and shapes everyday life in ways we tend not to think about in his documentary-style drama ‘Museum Hours’.
Johann (Bobby Sommer) is a security guard at Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum where he has spent the last six years developing an intimate knowledge of the paintings on display there, particularly the work of Flemish artist Pieter Bruegal whose depictions of 16th century peasant life hold the most meaning for him. When he meets Canadian visitor Anne (Mary Margaret O’Hara), a connection is formed and the pair embark on a tour of the city.
Through this simple narrative Cohen encourages us to see the world in a deeper way, so that people, places and objects take on a kind of beauty to rival the works of art in the museums.
Tickets are priced at €9 (€7 concession & €5 for Film Club members). For more information call the box office on 0504 90204 or visit www.thesourceartscentre.ie.
