The new season of The Source Film Club returns this September with a programme to please all lovers of arthouse and world cinema beginning with the Oscar-winning ‘Whiplash’ on Wednesday, September 23rd at 8pm.

This tense drama centres on Andrew (Miles Teller), an aspiring young jazz drummer at a prestigious New York music conservatory, who joins the school band run by the notorious Fletcher (JK Simmons), a music teacher who doesn’t believe in cosseting his students, instead preferring to use brutal tactics in order to get the best out of them.

It isn’t long before Andrew experiences first-hand Fletcher’s sadistic streak when he is subjected to constant verbal and sometimes even physical abuse. However, Fletcher’s cruel methods only drive Andrew’s obsession as he begins to alienate those closest to him in his bid to achieve perfection.

Director Damien Chazelle crafts a taut psychological drama in which the student-teacher relationship is tested to the limit in the quest for brilliance.

‘Whiplash’ will be screened at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Wednesday, September 23rd at 8pm. Tickets are priced at €9 (€7 concession and €5 for Film Club members).

A film club season ticket costs €45 which means you can avoid queuing on screening nights.

Season tickets must be purchased before 5pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. For details contact the box office on 0504 90204 or visit thesourceartscentre.ie.
