Culture Night will take place in The Source Arts Centre on Friday, September 20th.
Bookworm Bookshop, in association with Thurles Library and The Source Arts Centre, will celebrate Culture Night 2013 with a tribute to the renowned Thurles poet, Dennis O’Driscoll who passed away last December.
The evening will commence at Bookworm, Liberty Square at 6.30pm sharp with a reading from Dennis’ wonderful essay about Thurles, ‘Circling The Square’, by his brother Declan.
This will be followed by a guided walk - a literal circling of Liberty Square - with a talk by local historian Jimmy Duggan. The event will then move to the Source Arts Centre where there will be a reading of Dennis’ poetry by a number of Tipperary born writers and poets, including Leo Cullen, Paddy Moran and Liam Ryan.
Following this event to remember Dennis O’Driscoll The Source Arts Centre and North Tipperary Arts Office present a showcase of original performance work from the county in the county. A summer call for submissions from members of the general public lead to an expert panel choosing a number of local acts to perform in the auditorium. Artists confirmed include Áine Ryan (playwright and actor) from Upperchurch, Robbie Murphy (singer, songwriter) from Killinan and Theresa Larkin (musician and teacher) from Roscrea.
