Tipperary town native Dr. Seán Ó Riain has been selected as Grand Marshal of the 6th St. Patrick’s Day Parade of the Nations & Regions in Brussels – capital of Flanders, Belgium and the EU.

Tipperary town native Dr. Seán Ó Riain has been selected as Grand Marshal of the 6th St. Patrick’s Day Parade of the Nations & Regions in Brussels – capital of Flanders, Belgium and the EU.

Seán is fluent in eight languages and his nomination is in recognition of his personal achievements, distinguished academic career, active promotion of the Irish language and his multilingual contribution to the social and multi-cultural life of Brussels together with his long diplomatic career serving the interests of Ireland abroad and the EU. Séan is married to Suzanne, from French speaking Switzerland and they have two daughters Aisling and Ciara. He has one sister, Dr. Christine Curtin, while his brother, Donncha Ó Riain, was a seconded national expert in Irish translation with the Council Secretariat in Brussels for 3 years, and is now a translator with the European Parliament.
