‘The Way Home’ - an exhibition of works from the Crawford Art Gallery

South Tipperary County Council Arts Service presents ‘The Way Home’ an exhibition of works drawn from The Crawford Art Gallery Collection, Cork and presented in collaboration with South Tipperary County Council Arts Service, North Tipperary County Council Arts Service and Tipperary Libraries.

The exhibition will be launched on Thursday, May16th at 7.30pm at South Tipperary County Council Museum by Peter Murray, Director of Crawford Art Gallery and Cllr John Crosse, Cathaoirleach of South Tipperary County Council.

The title of the exhibition is taken from a painting by Daniel O’Neil, and works which include landscapes, seascapes and scenes from Irish life, resonate a theme of ‘Irish People and Place’. Works in the exhibition are part of The Crawford Art Gallery’s, Great Southern Art Collection. Works in the exhibition are of national significance and will appeal to a general audience, artists, students of art and history of art and anyone interested in Irish painting and heritage. Background information and educational support materials are available for school parties. As part of the Tipperary Bealtaine Festival, Peter Jordan will lead a lecture on artworks in the exhibition at the County Museum on Wednesday 22nd May at 6.30pm.

The Crawford Art Gallery is a National Cultural Institution and regional art museum for Munster. The gallery´s permanent collection comprises over

3,000 works, ranging from eighteenth century Irish and European painting and sculpture, through to contemporary video installations. The collection is particularly strong in Irish art of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

This exhibition has been curated as part of the Arts Programmes of North & South Tipperary County Council’s by its Local Authority Arts Officers and will form a central element of the 2013 Tipperary Bealtaine Festival Programme in association with Tipperary Libraries. The exhibition will be on show at the County Museum until August 24th.

Artists featured in the exhibition include: William Crozier, Gerard Dillon, Norah McGuinness, Daniel O’Neill, Patrick Scott, Camille Souter, Fred Archer, Donald Teskey, Maurice MacGonigal, Barrie Cooke, Sylvia Cooke-Collis, Patrick Collins, Sean McCarthy, Stella Frost and Evie Hone.
