All Island Choir Competition
Cashel Community School senior choir will compete in the Munster heat of the All Island School Choir competition on this coming Friday, 25th October. Dozens of post-primary schools submitted recordings at the initial point of entry and five from each of the four provinces have been selected to contest the provincial finals.
This All Island competition is promoted by Co-Operation Ireland whose patrons are President Michael D. Higgins and Queen Elizabeth II. Sponsors include R.T.E. and several North of Ireland bodies.
The Munster heat will be staged in the Cork School of Music this Friday evening, with three schools from Cork, one from Waterford and one from Tipperary (Cashel C.S.) competing. The Cashel choir, under the direction of Mr. John Murray, will perform two four-part pieces: “Edelweiss” and “An Raibh Tú Ar An gCarraigh”.RTE’s northern correspondent Tommy Gorman and a camera crew visited the school on this past Thursday to record footage and conduct interviews that will be shown in conjunction with Friday’s performance on Sunday 17th November, at 5.30pm.
Congratulations to all involved on reaching this advanced stage of this prestigious competition and they are wished the best of luck on the night.
