The National Finals of Phlereca were held in the Classac Centre in Clontarf over the weekend. Roscrea had groups in both the junior and senior catagories. The Junior group was mainly made up of the u/12 members with some of the children competing for their very first time.
It was a very strong competition with much more experienced opposition but despite this the boys and girls gave a large audience an outstanding show of what talent they possessed.
The eventual winners were Newport with an outstanding performance Corrofin were second while neighbours Camross were third. The Senior competition was a titanic struggle to the end with only two marks seperating the first two positions. A group from Lacka in Galway and ourselves had both delivered some fantastic entertainment at the end of deliberations the Galway side were ahead of Roscrea. This was a fantastic performance by the Roscrea branch as most of the group ranged in age from fourteen to eighteen with a few mature members added on. It was a busy weekend with the National finals and the SCT exams taking place on the same weekend, someone in head office made a big blunder having these two major events clashing. Our members will now be focousing on their forthcoming educational exams and after that hopefully advancement in from County Fleadh to Provincial. Many thanks to all who competed and travelled over the weekend and to all the mentors involved.
