We had a great turnout for the first rehearsal in the Anner Hotel for our 60th anniversary party night and book launch which will take place on Sunday October 30th.
The first rehearsal took place on Thursday last and the second will be held in the Anner this Thursday at 8:30pm. It was great to see so many former members coming back to join us on stage and we look forward to more of the same for the next two Thursday nights with the final one on Wednesday 26th in advance of the big event on the Bank Holiday Sunday evening.
On that night our history book - ‘Stage to Page - A History of Thurles Musical Society’ will be launched and there will be copies available for people to check out. There will also be a concert, dance, food and plenty of refreshments to keep everyone going long into the night as we celebrate sixty years in existence - no mean feat given the challenges which await musical theatrical societies throughout the country each and every year.
The book is awaited with great anticipation and is currently with the printers with the finishing touches having been put to it a few weeks ago, after a year long process. The book will be launched by the President of the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) Mary Heaney and we are hoping that it will be a real keepsake for anyone who has ever been involved with the Society down through the years. There are 1,000 photographs included as well as a comprehensive chronology of the Society, it’s activities, personalities, shows and of course highlights.
So, mark the date in your diary for the 60th birthday party - a free night out.
