Killarney based Thurles native Evelyn O’Sullivan has her fundraising hat on again. Evelyn is involved with a charity called Haven who are working in Haiti to try and rebuild lives and homes of its people after the devastating earthquake last year.
Evelyn’s latest idea is the “Buds of Thurles” competition which will have a similar format to the Rose of Tralee or the Lily of Killarney competitions. The idea is that a business from Thurles and surrounding areas such as Littleton, Two-Mile-Borris, Holycross and Borrisoleigh will nominate a girl to represent their company and on the night of the competition she will speak about the business.
It is basically a talking advert for the business. The event is due to take place on 30th September are HQ on Slievenamon Road, Thurles. The girls have to be over 16 years of age as it is taking place at a licenced premises. Cost to enter is E60 and Evelyn has a fantastic selection of prizes which have been donated by Tipperary Glass.
Last year Evelyn and a friend of hers raised E9,000 for Haiti through various fundraising events in their hometown of Kilarney. The most memorable fundraising night was a competition to find Killarney’s sexiest man. Unfortunately there was a Chlorea outbreak in Haiti in October and Evelyn could not travel to help in the recovery project. She plans to travel this October after further fundraising.
