This week Carmel Behan’s solo art exhibition, entitled ‘Over the Fence’ opens at the Craft Granary on Church Street in Cahir.
Carmel is from Clonmel and she has an honours degree in Fine Art and Life Drawing from the Crawford College of Art and Design (CIT), Cork.
Carmel creates one-off customised pieces for her clients in various genres. Her main mediums are acrylic and watercolour. Carmel has always had a great appreciation for bright colourful pieces of art and you can usually tell her style from the fun blast of colour on the wall. This often means that she is painting fun playful sweets and cupcakes that take pride of place in peoples kitchens or colourful bouquets of flowers that will brighten up a room in this dull Irish weather.
The main influence for this solo exhibition ‘Over the Fence’ comes from travelling in Asia and Africa and the other outdoor pursuits she has indulged in over the last two years. In 2013 Carmel wanted to challenge herself and signed up to climb Kilimanjaro in Africa.
In training for this she spent many mornings climbing Slievenamon mountain or taking long walks in the Comeraghs.
That experience provided the inspiration for this exhibition.
