Roscrea is to lay out the red carpet on February 28th next, to honour those who have reached the highest echelons in their chosen sport.
The Guest of Honour will be Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh - Irish Gaelic games commentator for the Irish national radio and television, RTÉ. In a career that has spanned six decades he has come to be regarded as the voice of Gaelic games.
Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh’s first broadcast was on a Railway Cup match in 1949 after being selected for the job following a test commentary on a hurling game. He has since become the public voice of the G.A.A. with his uniquely entertaining and often bilingual commentaries.
