Plans to transform Roscrea’s old Courthouse into a two-screen cinema inched closer to fruition at this month’s County Council meeting.

Cllr Michael Smith has supported a call to hand over ownership of the old Courthouse building to a cinema committee charged with overseeing the building’s transformation and refurbishment.

Sean O’Sullivan and others have led a facebook campaign called ‘Bring A Cinema to Roscrea’. In October last year, the County Manager Joe McGrath looked for expressions of interest regarding possible sites for a cinema in the town. Four possible venues were identified, with the Courthouse coming up trumps at this month’s meeting.
