RCDC Chairman John Lupton, in urging a large attendance at RCDC’s meeting in Roscrea’s Abbey Hall this Thursday night (Sept 26) at 8pm, is suggesting the setting up of a ‘Roscrea Anti-Litter Patrol’ to assist the Tidy Town’s effort.
Roscrea Tidy Towns has this year won a Bronze medal despite merely gaining 24 marks out of 50 for litter control. With an increase of 10 marks in this category alone Roscrea could be inline to win Silver in 2014. Mr Lupton recalls that 19 years ago this month about 300 Roscrea people gathered in the town’s then Pathé Hotel and collectively agreed that with people power, a strategic plan, commitment and perseverance, Roscrea could have a state of the art swimming pool and leisure centre. Today the town of Roscrea has that facility. With the same strategic plan, commitment and perseverance, Roscrea could increase its mark under litter control by 10 to 12 points in 2014 and thus would be well placed to win a Silver medal.
Mr Lupton hopes that Thursday night’s RCDC meeting would encourage and facilitate the setting up of “Roscrea Anti-Litter Patrol”, which could see large numbers on a regular basis patrolling the streets and the town’s entrance roads in high visibility manner with identifiable jackets.
