Speakers’ Corner comes to Ireland this month with a series of soapbox events taking place in nine Europe Direct centres all over the county.
If you have ever fancied getting on your own soapbox, now is the time.
Do you think “youth is wasted on the young”?
Tell us why and win!
To highlight 2012 as the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, Europe Direct Ireland is holding a soapbox competition on the saying “Youth is wasted on the young”.
By simply sharing your views, you will have the chance to win the regional prize of an iPad and a trip to the European Parliament in Brussels. The regional winner then goes onto the national final, in Farmleigh House on 20th November, which has a prize of E1,000.
Usually speaking from your soapbox is an impromptu action, this event is less so. You will get to research and prepare your three-minute speech, which you will then deliver before an audience and panel of judges. Your local soapbox event will take place on Thursday, November 1st in the Source Library, Thurles. This event will be chaired by Ireland South MEP, Ms Phil Prendergast.
To be in with a chance to win get an application form online at www.europedirect.ie or contact Europe Direct Information Centre at Thurles Library on 0504 29720 or email@example.com.
The competition is open to second level students and adults - applications must be received no later than forty-eight hours before the event.
Prizes are sponsored by the European Commission Representation in Ireland and Phil Prendergast MEP.
