Bus Parking Facilities

Roscrea Community Development Council welcomes the €70,000 funding announced by Minister of State with responsibility for Public Transport, Mr Alan Kelly, for the provision of bus parking facilities in Roscrea. This has been sought for many years and will assist to grow the local tourist industry and lead to fuller utilisation of the excellent heritage and tourist products which we are fortunate to have in Roscrea. We must be grateful to Minister Kelly for this allocation and ensure its optimum use for the purposes provided.

Roscrea Community Development Council welcomes the €70,000 funding announced by Minister of State with responsibility for Public Transport, Mr Alan Kelly, for the provision of bus parking facilities in Roscrea. We must be grateful to Minister Kelly for this allocation and ensure its optimum use for the purposes provided.

We understand, however, that the location of the proposed bus park is a matter for North Tipperary Co. Co. We also understand that the Carroll’s Row area has been suggested by the County Council, but it would appear that this was done without consultation with the residents in the area and thus without an adequate appraisal of its suitability. This has caused justifiable upset to the residents of Carroll’s Row, who are for the most part elderly. Uniquely, all of the residents of Carroll’s Row and/or their families have contributed very significantly to the business development of Roscrea and they fully appreciate the potential benefit of Mr Kelly’s announcement for the future development of Roscrea, especially from a tourism perspective. Their objections to Carroll’s Row as the location are most understandable and well made and must be acknowledged by the Local Authority. We believe that the County Council must appraise and examine alternative site(s) in, or convenient to, the centre of the town as it is our belief that such site(s) exist. We would urge the County Council to act swiftly in this regard as this money must not be lost to the town.

With such prompt action by the County Council we are confident that the funding announced by Minister Kelly will ensure that Roscrea will have the proposed facilities in a suitable site, which would have the full support of the community.
