JAMES Berkery-O’Brien has taken a significant step toward becoming a professional dancer.

The 18-year-old from Lahorna, Nenagh has won a full DADA (dance & drama award) scholarship worth £35,000 per annum to one of the most prestigious dance colleges in the world.

Berkery-O’Brien, who was first introduced to ballet while attending the Aisling Doherty School of Ballet in Nenagh, will attend Bird College in Kent from September 12 next.

“I auditioned for the top colleges in London,” James Berkery-O’Brien told the Tipperary Star.

“The top three at the moment are Laine, Bird College and Performers College. I got into all three schools and then I was further offered a scholarship to two of them, a full scholarship to cover my fees which comes to stg£35,000 for this year,” added a delighted James Berkery-O’Brien.

James has worked incredibly hard to progress his dancing career thus far. He was first introduced to ballet at the age of 14 and left school after his junior cert at the tender age of 16 to follow his dancing dream.
