The Willoughby Brothers, return to Cashel in Concert at the Brú Ború Theatre, on Saturday, May 24th (8pm) with special guest Mary Byrne.

Richie, Des, Sammy, Robbie, Johnny and Jerome hail from Coolboy in County Wicklow - six brothers with just over a decade between the eldest and youngest.

Their passion for singing and performing combined with a genuine closeness, stems from a childhood filled with music and singing, a love they carried with them through the years into adulthood.

The Willoughby Brothers are currently taking the national and international music scene by storm with appearances on a number of TV and radio shows including their live performance of the title song at the 2013 Rose of Tralee International Festival before a TV audience of 1.2 million.

The group has also made appearances on RTE’s ‘Up For The Match’, the ‘Derek Mooney Show’ and ‘The John Murray Show’ on Radio 1.

The Willoughby Brothers have also recently concluded a three-week tour of the US which included a Caribbean cruise and have further US and UK tours planned for later this year.

The group’s new album, ‘Irish Heart’, features a blend of Irish ballads, popular classics and contemporary songs. The title track is an uplifting ballad written by Derek Ryan and tells the story of an Irish emigrant who longs to return home. The Willoughby Brothers intricate and melodic harmonies are what makes this album stand out and their version of Phil Coulter’s ‘Steal Away’ and John Denver’s ‘Annie’s Song’ are truly stunning.

‘All Around My Hat’, ‘When the Boys Come Home’, ‘Something Inside So Strong’ and the cover of the Oakridge Boys 1989 hit ‘No Matter How High’ adds a lively and upbeat feel to the album while ‘Solitaire’ is a breath-taking solo performance from Des.

The final track on the album, ‘Our Mother Our Friend’, was written for the group by Michael English and is a poignant tribute to the memory of their late mother Breda, who sadly lost her battle against breast cancer and passed away in 1990 at the young age of 38.

With beautiful arrangements and orchestration throughout this album has something for all lovers of music and will take the listener on an emotive musical journey.

‘Irish Heart’ is available in music stores nationwide and to download on iTunes.

Mary Byrne’s story is the stuff of fairytales. Mary is the Tesco supermarket checkout lady who took a chance in life at the age of 50 by auditioning for ‘The X Factor’. Although Mary was pipped for a place in the 2010 final she won the hearts of millions with her big, warm personality and powerhouse voice. And when she finally got her life-changing break in the world of showbusiness, Mary Byrne, a bright and ambitious woman with a wealth of life’s experiences under her belt, was determined to make the most of it. Mary was mentored by Louis Walsh and her fellow finalists included One Direction and Matt Cardle. Since then, Mary has performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her historic State visit to Ireland in 2011 and shared the stage with Neil Diamond to perform for over 55,000 fans at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. Mary has also just scored a top ten hit with her new album ‘Magic of the Musicals’.
