The County Tipperary Fleadh Cheoil Week was launched in Flanagan’s of Ballina on Saturday 27th April. The Fleadh Cheoil week will be running from the 12th - 19th May.

The scenic views along the banks of the river Shannon provide a magnificent backdrop for the Fleadh Cheoil activities in Ballina. It promises to be a fun-filled week of entertainment including Irish traditional music, song and dance. The week got off to a great start with many enjoying the traditional sessions, workshops and the céilí by Johnny Reidy at the Lakeside Hotel.

The following programme of events were unveiled:-

Friday 10th - Trad Sessions in JD’s, Ballina and the Anchor Inn Killaloe (10pm). All welcome.

Saturday 11th - Set & Sean Nós Workshop in The Anchor Inn, Killaloe (E5).

Sunday 12th - An afternoon of sets with The Johnny Reidy Ceilí Band in The Lakeside Hotel (2.30pm-5.30pm - E10).

Monday 13th - Comórtas Drámaíochta - Schools Drama Competition for the Seosamh MacGabgann Cup in Parish Hall, Ballina.

Tuesday 14th - Trad. Session in Liam O’Riains, Ballina (10pm). All welcome.

Wednesday 15th - The Gathering Awards followed by music session in O’Donovans, Ballina (8pm). Set Dancing in The Anchor Inn, Killaloe.

Thursday 16th - Singing Session in Reddan’s, Killaloe (10pm). Fear an Tí Michael Scanlon. All welcome.

Friday 17th - Official Opening plus Concert in Bun Scoil, Béal an Átha (8pm). Also Trad Sessions in Mills, Ballina & The Anchor Inn Killaloe. All welcome (10pm).

Saturday 18th - Fleadh Competitions: Music, Song, Dance, Comhrá Gaeilge Bun Scoil, Béal an Átha from 10.30am. Music on the Street & Busking Competition Music Sessions in O’Riain’s & Gooser’s (10pm). All welcome.

Sunday 19th - Aifreann Tradisiúnta in Seipéal St. Lua, Ballina (11.30am).Fleadh Competitions: Music, Singing and Dancing in Bun Scoil Béal an Átha from 1.30pm.

Local shops and businesses have been encouraged to decorate their premises to celebrate the Tipperary Fleadh Cheoil coming to Ballina for the first time.

Primary School students in the catchment area have submitted their artwork depicting Irish culture and these will be displayed in Bunscoil Ballina during the weekend.
