It is that time of year once again when music enthusiasts from all over Ireland are descending on venues for the annual County Fleadhanna.
This year, the Tipperary Fleadh is hosted by the Ormonde CCE branch and is being held in the picturesque village of Ballina.
The Roscrea branch will be well represented on both competition days, and apart from many solo entries, there will be grupa cheoil entries together with céili band, duets and trios consisting of Junior members competing on Saturday.
The competitions on Sunday will feature members in the 15-18 class together with Senior entries.
Best wishes to all branch members competing. Some branch members have competed and qualified for a Provincial Fleadh in Leinste.
Conal Hanamy took First Place in Lilting, Irish Singing and Whistle Airs, Second in English Singing and Third in Flute Airs, Joanne Mahon came Third in Fiddle Airs and was recommended to Leinster.
The Offaly Fleadh took place last weekend in Kilcormack and was hosted by the Ballyboy branch. Well done both!
This year once again we are running the summer sessions. These have proved very successful over the past two years.
This year’s events will take place during the last two weeks of June and the first two weeks of July.
It is our intention to have more guest branches this year to add to the home grown talent, and as usual, there will be refreshments at the break.
A more detailed programme will be published within the comming weeks. We hope to have a list of fleadh qualifiers next week.
Well done also to Joan Murray on the launch of 32 Wonders of Roscrea DVD. Joan has had a huge input into this production apart from turning out talented young musicians.
