The BAFTA award-winning film ‘Ida’ will screen at the Town Hall Cinema in the Nenagh Arts Centre on Thursday, February 19th.
Set in Poland in 1962 ‘Ida’ tells the story of Anna who is a novice and an orphan brought up by nuns in a convent. Ida has to see Wanda, her only living relative, before she takes her vows. Wanda reveals to Anna that she, Anna, is Jewish. Anna travels into the Polish countryside with her aunt, seeking a connection to the family she never knew and there her faith is tested. Anna goes in search of facts to her true identity, but finds a story that even she didn’t expect.
The film has been nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography at the 87th Academy Awards.
