John Lupton Jnr’s first novel “Peter Black – The Trials” was launched by his friend, historian, literary enthusiast and local author, Adrian Hewson, in Roscrea’s Abbey Hall on Friday (Dec 13th).

The master of ceremonies on the night was another of John’s friends, former journalist and writer Liam Doran, who himself recently launched his work “From Roscrea to New Guinea”. John is the second of four children of John & Eileen Lupton and attended Coolderry National School followed by Coláiste Phobal Roscrea, where he completed his leaving certificate before going on to complete Bachelor Degrees in Maynooth and Trinity College Dublin. Liam complimented John on completing his first Novel in 3½ months and Des Walsh Printers for their expediency and professionalism in printing the book. Mr. Adrian Hewson, who as diocesan lay reader of the Church of Ireland, is now looking after the day to day needs of the Roscrea group of Parishes and its Parishioners, following the transfer of Rev. Lesley Robinson as rector to Clontarf. Adrian recalled John’s grandfather, Tom, who he knew very well and recounted the late Tom’s story telling abilities which he suggested followed through to his grandson John. The book is based in a fictitious rural North American town called “Lismore”, in the State of Michigan. Peter Black, the only child of “Big Tom” finds himself under the private tutelage of the Jesuit Pastor of Lismore, the eccentric but brilliant Fr. Jim, a former professor of the prestigious Gregorian University in Rome. Pitted against the evil Prince of Pillatar, Peter will need all his skills and wits to complete there brutal trials. The cover of John’s book asserts that “Nothing less than the fate of Earth itself is at stake in this Galactic Contest”! John is now working on a second book, which will be something different, he states, but hopes to follow up with two further books on Peter Black. John thanked everyone involved in the organising of the launch and everyone involved on the night. He also thanked his parents for their support and his sister Mary C. for her design of the cover image of the book. John published the book himself under the style of JAL Publications and while this book is available through Amazon, it has been printed by Walsh Printers Roscrea and is, from the night of the launch, available locally at Bernie’s SuperValu Roscrea and will be available at other outlets in the area in coming days.John thanked Des Walsh of Walsh Printers and Andrea Patterson of Des’s firm for their professionalism and efficiency. Contacted Jim at his website www.johnalupton.com.
