The Terryglass Arts Festival has announced an exciting programme of day time workshops for this year’s festival which takes place from Wednesday, August 14th to Sunday, August 18th.
Featuring artists and craftspeople of national and international renown fifty-eight workshops in all will be held over three days to provide a weekend jam-packed with fun-filled entertainment for all the family. From millinery designing to traditional woodturning, contemporary dance to African drumming, there is something to entertain children of all ages! And lots for the adults too!
Ever think there should be an app for that? Workshop participants in this year’s Terryglass Arts Festival will get the chance to learn how to design and create their own app in the Coderdojo workshop using MIT educational software.
There’s an opportunity to revive forgotten skills and learn how to use a sewing machine to design and embellish a handbag. For all the budding milliners, Andrea Parry’s workshop will show how to create wonderful headpieces combining traditional millinery materials with beads and feathers.
Artist Rosemary Carty will facilitate a relaxed exploration of watercolor painting including composition, colour work and trouble shooting, while American artist Tami Curtis-Ellis will introduce participants to the exciting medium of acrylic painting.
Both these events will take place in Una’s Tearooms in the Village which provides a wonderful tranquil atmosphere. Why not visit the Tearooms and engage in a Taste of Terryglass while enjoying afternoon tea in very pleasant surroundings?
For all budding theatre stars, the drama teens workshop will explore the creative processes involved in making theatre. Taking words from a script, this workshop will show how to turn the words into a storytelling picture using voices and movement. For the little tots, Carol Brophy’s theatre tots workshop will show the toddlers how to use their own voice and imaginations to bring magic to a story.
There is a unique opportunity to try the ancient craft of woodturning with expert woodturner Thomas Adlum while award winning local artist Gerardine Wisdom will show how to make sculptures.
