The annual Clonmel Busking Festival 2012 raised just over €13,000 for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin - following a long weekend of street busking, venue gigs and a monster Sunday ceili. Organiser Eelco Beckers said that they were ‘over the moon’ with the amount raised.

“We have surpassed last year’s amount and that is fantastic, we didn’t think that we would,” said Eelco who was so busy busking and gigging all weekend himself, he didn’t get to see half of the groups who played. But that would have been a difficult task, seeing as over 100 gigs took place over the weekend.

“It was great, there was a variety of music, something for everyone, from one end of the street to another you could have seen 10 to 12 groups, I don’t think you could get that anywhere else,” he said.

Eelco thanked all the musicians who participated in the event but especially all the locals who busked, gigged and helped with the entire weekend, and all the scout members who collected money throughout the festival.

“The word is spreading and I think we are in to a something here, I relaly think that we could be as big as the Fleadh in a few years’ time,” said Eelco, who is already looking forward to next years’s event. € 13,057.09c was raised and all proceeds will go to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.
