The streets of Rathdowney will soon ring to the sound of excited children rushing to the Community Centre in their own special costume and newly applied stage make-up to give it their all with their school friends in the up-coming production of ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’.

The show will represent the 29th annual production from the Rathdowney Pantomime Group.

Panto time in Rathdowney is unlike any other time of the year. In the days before opening night the air crackles with anticipation. You can actually feel the atmosphere change as a sense of excitement hangs over the town. Then, for one magical week, the blood, sweat and tears of rehearsals are forgotten as children, students, doctors, farmers, hairdressers, teachers, housewives, factory workers, shopkeepers, every dog and his mother hit the stage to transport the audience to a magical place away from the recession, worries about bank loans and all your day-to-day cares.

This year’s show again is an original show written by the two resident script writers Niall O’Doherty and Michael Creagh. The show is loosely (very loosely!) based on the love lives (or not!) of a group of friends living in an uptown New York apartment.

We follow their trials and tribulations as they search for true love. You, the audience, will be invited to savour the comedy. You will also get to hear and sing along with over thirty songs both modern and not-so-modern songs.

And, the many songs in the show will be backed by a ten-piece orchestra and pit singers, ably led by musical director William Cullagh.

In all the cast members and crew number 130 (that’s 30 adults and 100 teenagers and children).

Don’t miss ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ at the Rathdowney Community Centre from March 12th to 15th (nightly 8pm - matinee also on March 15th at 2.30pm).
