There was a stunning debut by the Sacred Heart Primary School Chamber Choir at the school Christmas Carol Service on Wednesday last.
The service was held in conjunction with Cistercian College Roscrea, the schools partners in musical education. The school choir, conducted by William Cullagh and accompanied by the Cistercian College Orchestra have brought the standard of choral ability within the school to a new high. The addition of a Chamber Choir to the school has set a new challenge to which the children have risen in spectacular fashion. Singing a repertoire of songs old and new the choir entertained with festive spirit. Singing and stage performance have long been hallmarks of Sacred Heart education in Roscrea and this new level of performance was thoroughly appreciated by the audience. The service incorporated performances by the infant classes, highly polished as ever and not merely willing to rest on the laurels of their cuteness. A nativity play, beautifully produced by first and second class. An instrumental miscellany performed by the Cistercian College Orchestra was mesmerising. Performances by the whole school choir which displayed the range and abilities of the talent in the school was showcased on the night. Testing the vocal ranges of the choristers and the hearts of the assembled was the performance of “O Holy Night” by the Chamber Choir.
