The Roscrea branch of North Tipperary Hospice Movement are encouraging locals to ‘walk off’ their Christmas feast and join them on the St. Stevens day Wren Walk.
This popular annual event will take place this year on St. Stephen’s morning from Fancroft Mill and Gardens at 11am. There will be the choice of two routes on the morning; a short one hour route and a longer route taking approximately an hour and thirty minutes. On return back to the mill, walkers will be treated to Colm Brophy’s famous homemade soup and refreshments. A prize will be given for the best dressed Wren of the day. Chairperson of the Roscrea branch Anthony Bourke said: “This walk caters for all ages and all levels of fitness. It is a family fun event and we would encourage people to come down with their friends, families and children to take part in this community event and support local hospice care.” “Year after year there is a bigger turnout for the event and we hope 2014 to be our best year yet.
The feedback we get from the walk is always great, people seem to really enjoy themselves as well as get a bit of exercise after the turkey dinner!.” There is no fixed entry fee for the walk, but donations will be kindly accepted. All proceeds go to North Tipperary Hospice Movement who need to raise over €400,000 annually to maintain the provision of services. “We depend 100% on donations to keep the high standard of hospice care. The Roscrea community has been so generous throughout 2014 and we would like to thank them sincerely for all their generosity and to all our volunteers who have given their time,” said Anthony. Anthony would also like to congratulate Colm Fitzpatrick who won Winnies Christmas cake in the annual raffle last week. The raffle raised over €2000 from supporters eager to win the famous Christmas cake. The Roscrea branch would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a safe, prosperous New Year.
