The beauty of the picturesque twin towns of Killaloe and Ballina awaits you during the 19th Annual “Féile Brian Ború Festival”, set to run from June 29th to July 3rd.
As it is the birthplace of Brian Ború, we like to commemorate Ireland’s Greatest High King in style! With the busiest programme of events ever, this year’s Festival is the perfect getaway for a family-filled event of fun and entertainment.
It is also another milestone on the road to our build up to celebrations in 2014. From Wednesday 29th June to Sunday 3rd July 2011, experience a variety of fun activities including Pot bellied Pig racing, the Art trail, Féile children’s parade, Dog show, Animal magic with their display of amazing animals, the Lola Montez Theatrical Cabaret, traditional Irish music/dancing, the new and exciting Arts Banquet, craft market, farmers market, bungee jumping, children’s Art Competition, tag rugby, guided tours, dragon boat races & much more… Enjoy the stunning fire works display over the River Shannon and for the Féile finale enjoy “Sharon Shannon” live in concert at the Lakeside Hotel.
Wednesday will begin with the official opening of “Féile Brian Ború Art Trail” at Wood Brothers and will also include the Killaloe Writers Group poetry and prose reading in Ponte Vecchio and the Anchor Inn traditional music and set dancing night.
Thursday ‘s events include Féile na nÓg Youth Carnival fun day and Festival Club, Guided tours of the beautiful 13th century St. Flannan’s Cathedral, guided walking tours of Killaloe, a Summer concert in the Pop-Up playhouse, a drama performance in Quay Arts and a hunt museum lecture. Thursday night will finish up with our regular Féile Table Quiz in O’Donovan’s Bar.
Friday is also jam packed with events for all ages, including guided tours of the Cathedral and of Killaloe, fun activities at the Killaloe Library, the Active Age Tea Party, the King Puck over the River Shannon, Tops of the Town Talent Competition and the Féile na nÓg Youth Forum & Beat on the Street.
Saturday events begin with canoe polo which will continue through the day. The morning’s events include sporting fun in Ballina GAA pitch, a Day in the Life exhibition at Quay Arts, children’s art competition, craft market, animal magic, art trail treasure hunt, Plectrum Youth Music festival and a soccer tournament which will lead you into the Féile Brian Ború parade beginning between Molly’s Bar & Flanagans on the Lake. Saturday evening enjoy the Great Big Ború Gig at the Pop-Up Playhouse with a variety of local talent and finish this busy day by watching the stunning fireworks display over the River Shannon.
Sunday also has a range of events available starting with bungee jumping, canoe polo, hurling, farmers market, animal magic, the dog show and Pot bellied Pig racing, a display of teen talent, tag rugby and guided tour... and that’s not all... In the afternoon celebrate with the Garden Féte (Lakeside Hotel), the Shannon Swim, the Dragon Boat Races and end this exciting weekend with Miracle Bell headlining the Féile na nÓg & Sharon Shannon Live in concert at the Lakeside Hotel as the main festival headline.
