Áine Ryan’s ‘Kitty in the Lane’ hits Dublin

On Friday, November 8th at 7.30pm The New Theatre in Temple Bar, Dublin will host a rehearsed reading of Áine Ryan’s debut play ‘Kitty in the Lane’. The exciting two-act play focuses on a girl living alone with her invalid father, isolated from the community, her peers and society in general. The play is about breakdown and dysfunctional relationships, the main themes including madness, oppression and loneliness.

On Friday, November 8th at 7.30pm The New Theatre in Temple Bar, Dublin will host a rehearsed reading of Áine Ryan’s debut play ‘Kitty in the Lane’.

The exciting two-act play focuses on a girl living alone with her invalid father, isolated from the community, her peers and society in general. The play is about breakdown and dysfunctional relationships, the main themes including madness, oppression and loneliness.

‘Kitty in the Lane’ will be presented as a full production at The Source Arts Centre, Thurles in January 2014 - on Friday, January 10th and Saturday, January 11th.

The action of ‘Kitty in the Lane’ plays out over the course of one night. Kitty waits alone in the kitchen. Her father is dying in the room next door. Kitty wishes he would just hurry up. Kitty wishes her boyfriend, late to collect her for an evening together, would hurry up too. Lonely, anxious and still mourning the loss of her late brother, Kitty’s evening is about to devastate or thrill.

Áine Ryan is a playwright and actor from Upperchurch in County Tipperary. She graduated with a BA in Theatre and Performance from Goldsmiths, University of London in June 2013. Her ten-minute monologue entitled ‘Glimpses’ was produced by The Goats Theatre Company at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre, London in September 2012. Áine also completed the Eastenders: E20 Writers School with the BBC between January and July of 2012. ‘Kitty in the Lane’ repreents Áine’s debut play.

Áine’s performing credits include Rachel in ‘Five Pillars’ (directed by Jon Rosling) with Eye Films in Yorkshire, 2013 and Danuta in ‘Heavy Duty’ (directed by Rhys Hayward) in Somerset, 2012. Áine has also played leading roles in short films for companies such as Milkwood, Film London and the NFTS.

Emily Matthews, a local actor and theatre practitioner from Holycross in County Tipperary, will also participate in the reading.
