Reen Festival a great success

Just some of the many musicians who took part in the Reen Festival.
The thirteenth Reen Festival took place recently on a glorious summers day. The view from the elevated site was splendid as the whole of central Tipperary could be seen below.

It was a wonderful day of talk, song and music as people came together to celebrate The Gathering. It was great to see how the tradition of music making is transmitted from generation to generation as grandchildren kept time with their grandparents.

The Kilmanagh contingent, led by Liam Ronan, played in harmony with the mean and women of Tipperary - Nowlan Park was forgotten. The musicians and singers had great stamina and the session continued at Buddy’s in Glengoole with Jim Ryan (Jim O’the Mill), Sheila and Billy Stapleton joining with the Reen players.

But life has a strange mixture of joy and sorrow. The sad news of John Brennan’s tragic death in a motorbike accident on Monday 22 July stunned the parish. Many of the musicians who played at the festival played at his funeral mass. May he rest in peace. Our condolences to his sisters Sinead and Marie, his brother-in-law Enda and all his relatives and friends.
