The exhibition was intalled by this year’s graduates of Fine Art, the Regional Colleges in Cork and Limerick, including the Centre for Creative Arts Galway (GMIT), Limerick School of Art( LIT), and the Crawford College of Art and Design (CIT).

The event was opened by Noel Kelly, CEO/Director of Visual Artists Ireland and President of AICA Ireland. The launch was well attended, and the art work was received extremely well received. Despite some bafflement as to the methodologies and concepts of some of the pieces, there was an eagerness on behalf of the general public to learn more about contemporary art practice. The participating artists are: Holly Burnard, Bénédicte Colman, Anna Dudek, John Dowling, Anna Giersz, John Lee, Estera Mianowska, Kate McElroy, William Murray, Helen O’Donovan, Cliodhna O’Riordan, Eleanor Phillips, Louise Schewe.

The exhibition goes on until August 25th and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am-5pm. Admission is free. For more information see www. damerhousegallery.com. Therry Rudin and Patricia Hurl are two artists living and working in Ballybritt. They say that since moving to the Roscrea area five years ago they were struck by the lack of a designated ‘Arts Space’ within the town.

After trying unsuccessfully to find a suitable empty building to fulfill the dream of developing some form of arts initiative, they applied to the OPW with the idea of using one of the upper disused floors for Damer House as an artists-led, non-profit making, contemporary art space. To their delight we got a very positive response and after a few months of planning and negotiation, Damer House Gallery is now open to the public!
