The award-winning play ‘Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer’ returns to The Source for one night only on Thursday, April 30th.
For those of you that may not know Tom Crean was the unsung hero of the heroic age of Polar exploration, an indestructible character.
He ran away from home at the age of 15, spent longer in the icy wilderness than either Scott or Shackleton and outlived most of the era’s more notable figures. But Tom Crean never spoke about his exploits and he became a forgotten figure until publication of his first biography, ‘An Unsung Hero’, in 2000.
The award-winning one-man play ‘Tom Crean Antarctic Explorer’ began its life in a London museum as a fifteen minute historical re-enactment, the creation of an Irish actor and writer named Aidan Dooley. The remarkable journey of the courageous Tom Crean is skillfully brought to life in this dramatic and humorous solo performance written and performed by Dooley. Hear the riveting true stories of Crean’s Antarctic explorations as one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive three famous expeditions.
‘Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer’ returns to The Source Arts Centre in Thurles for one night only on Thursday, April 30th at 8pm.
