The Source Arts Centre in Thurles will host ‘Hanging with the Elephant: An Evening with Michael Harding’ on Friday, March 20th at 8pm.
Following his hugely-popular nationwide tour of venues in Ireland in the autumn of 2013 Michael Harding - author, playwright and Irish Times columnist - is on his travels again to read from his latest book ‘Hanging with the Elephant’.
His best-selling memoir ‘Staring at Lakes’ was enormously popular and brought Harding to nationwide attention. Speaking with openness, honesty and great wit Michael regaled the nation with his stories of life, love and melancholy.
Hardings new book, ‘Hanging with the Elephant’, takes up where ‘Staring at Lakes’ finished - with the author back in Leitrim in the north-west of Ireland. His wife has left for a six-week trip to Poland and he is alone for the first time since his illness two years earlier. Faced with this time on his own Harding resolves to take stock of his life. But, as he attempts to tame the ‘elephant’ - an Asian metaphor for the unruly mind - he finds himself drawn back to the death of his mother during the summer of 2012.
Harding’s engaging style has a way of drawing audiences in. Hilarious yet poignant, homespun yet profound, down-to-earth yet prone to amazing flights of fancy, there’s nothing quite like an evening with Michael Harding.
Michael’s nationwide tour began last November with three sold-out shows at the Abbey Theatre (Peacock stage) in Dublin.
