Set in Poland in 1962 the film tells the stpory of Anna who is a novice and an orphan brought up by nuns in the convent. She has to see Wanda, her only living relative, before she takes her vows. Wanda reveals to Anna that she, Anna is Jewish. Anna travels into the Polish countryside with her aunt seeking a connection to the family she never knew, her faith tested in this and other, more earthly ways. Anna goes in search of facts to her true identity, but finds a story that even she didn’t expect.

The film has been nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography at the 87th Academy Awards while David Denby of The New Yorker called ‘Ida’ “by far, the best movie of the year”.
