Its a Collective brings artists research and practice into focus for Culture Night in Roscrea.
Itsa Collective is made up of five artists who graduated this June from GMIT, two of whom had work in the emerging artists exhibition ‘Overture 2014’, in Damer House Gallery this summer. The artists, Jackie Burke, Jason Dunne, Philip Foley, Martin Reid and Peter Sherry generously agreed to present their recent work together with a selection of their individual research. The audience, which was primarily made up of artists and students from the local secondary school were given time to familiarize themselves with the work and the research for 30/45 mins. This was followed by a very informal talk giving a background into the collective and discussing the benefits of collective activity, and what sets’ Itsa’ apart from other artist’s collectives. The artists themselves then gave a talk about their own individual artworks and the themes and concepts they addressed. This led to a lively discussion about the nature and role of current contemporary art practice. Many present found the topic quite challenging but said they came away energized and wanting to know more.
