Thurles Drama Group will present their annual and eagerly-awaited night of theatre entitled ‘Short Cuts’ on Friday, May 23rd and Saturday, May 24th commencing at 8pm each night in The Source Arts Centre.
This represents the culmination of another year for the group following the tremendously successful productions of ‘The Weir’ and ‘A View From The Bridge’ with the latter earning a coveted place at the All-Ireland Open Drama Finals in Athlone for the third year running. The drama group always enjoy this evening of theatre and it always proves to be most appealing to audiences and this year should be no exception.
For those unfamiliar with the format the evening consists of a variety of short excerpts from plays.
Thurles Drama Group are delighted, again, to welcome many new members into their ranks for this year’s event as well as some more seasoned performers, many of whom have taken the plunge and volunteered to direct a piece this year. It is a great opportunity for all concerned to dip their toe in the water, as it were, and see if drama is for them. There are many facets to the drama group and if the stage doesn’t appeal to you there are always plenty of vacancies behind the scenes so we hope to increase our numbers on both sides following this evening as well as providing a truly entertaining night of drama to patrons.
Two of the pieces you can expect to see on the night include excerpts from ‘On Raftery’s Hill’ by Marina Carr and ‘On The Outside’ by Tom Murphy together with other classic and contemporary work. On nights such as this there is also an emphasis on the lighter side of live performance.
Tickets can be booked at The Source on 0504 90204 or can be purchased at the box office on either night.
A huge congratulations to Thurles Drama Group’s Martin Fitzgerlad who won the best supporting actor award at the All-Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone on Saturday for his role in ‘A View From The Bridge’. Well done Martin!
