The Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre in Cloughjordan has received €5,000 in funding under the 2014 Local and Regional Museums Scheme.

The funding has been welcomed by Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan, who said: “This is excellent news for our local impressive museum which celebrates the life of Thomas MacDonagh. It is an attractive tourism amenity deserving of this financial support from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and from my colleague Minister Jimmy Deenihan.”

Deputy Coonan projects funded under the scheme seek to enhance the cultural offering of museums; encourage greater access to museums and promote the use of museums as tourism resources in their locality or region.

“Museums have a pivotal role in dispensing local knowledge and displaying unique collections to locals and tourists alike.

Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre makes a significant contribution to the development and promotion of Tipperary’s cultural tourism offering,” said Deputy Coonan.
