The launch took place in The Thurles Source Arts Centre, with 60 pieces of art chosen from the public by Mary Dillon. She thanked all who contributed for allowing us a glimpse into their experience and said that they are encouraging us to recall our own. We also saw a lovely short film about recycling or upcycling of furniture, called “Folk Furniture” by Tony Donoghue. A brilliant piece with interviews reciting memories of what happened to the furniture and the role it served.

With “Songs from the Showband Era” performed by Lil Hackett, Tom Williams and Martin Horan, everyone was relaxed and enjoying the beautiful day. Emer O’Brien, event co-coordinator thanked all who attended. She noted the work done by The Arts Council, Tipperary Libraries, North and South Tipperary Councils.

Garda Chris Verling Chairman of the Successful Ageing Thurles launched this year’s festival. He congratulated all involved and stressed the importance of such a festival to their Successful Ageing group.

There also on the day was Melanie Scott of Tipperary Arts Council. She spoke of the wide range of events, the Visual Arts, music, craft, literature, story telling. “Across the whole county we want to provide opportunities to get creative. We are also bringing the arts to those unable to attend public events. This is very important to the arts council. We invite everyone to attend, take part and hope the festival will inspire all”.
