The Icarus Theatre company present Romeo & Juliet at The Source Arts Centre on November 21st-22nd.
Romeo & Juliet has been around for centuries. Playwrights and troupes worldwide have nipped and tucked Shakespeare’s infamous classic into endless interpretations, venturing between many genres and theatrical forms, from ice ballets to large-scale professionally-choreographed dance shows.
The tragic romantic tale even reached a new found cult status in the film version starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes a few years back. And, even though it recently has spawned hugely Taylor Swift’s hit song ‘Love Story’; you’d think we’d be a bit tired of the whole affair by now, eh?
The highly-acclaimed Icarus Theatre pays a welcome return to The Source Arts Centre following from their success of Macbeth.
Icarus have chosen to trim the fat from Shakespeare’s classic and have left in the juiciest bits that were central to the plot and mostly unexplored from recent adaptations. The result? A rollercoaster rendering of the play that promises to drag the audience on a fast-paced soul-stirring ride!
Icarus has stuck to traditional dress for this production and it promises to be an amazing night of theatre, bringing one of the greatest examples of literature to life on stage. A thoroughly recommended must see!
Romeo & Juliet plays at The Source Arts Centre on Wednesday, November 21st (8pm) - tickets priced at E18 (E15 concession), school groups E5 (teachers free of charge). Romeo & Juliet also features at 11am on Thursday, November 22nd.
