Tipperary traditional Irish band, Truancy, was named as the winner of the inaugural Trad for Trócaire Battle of the Bands at the Fleadh Cheoil last week. The young act beat competition from six other traditional bands to claim top prize.
Truancy, who come from Thurles, will now perform as the opening act during Temple Bar Trad Fest 2013 and will also get three days recording time at Comhaltas’ Clasac Studios in Dublin.
The Trad for Trócaire Battle of the Bands final was held at the Fleadh Cheoil in Cavan on Friday, August 17th.
The competition was run in the lead up to Trad for Trócaire, a national traditional music week run by Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, which will take place from 4th to 10th October 2012. The week celebrates Irish music, while raising funds to help poor people living in developing countries.
