On August 18th-22nd the Simon Ryan Theatre will host the Tipperary Excel Youth Theatre Group’s debut production of ‘Les Misérables’.
More than seventy million people in forty-three countries and in twenty-two languages around the globe have seem this musical which is still breaking box-office records everywhere now in its 30th year of production.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France ‘Les Misérables’ tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
This local production will see a talented cast of over fifty young people take to the stage this summer.
‘Les Misérables’ is being staged in Tipperary Town for the very first time and being directed and produced by Michael O’Donoghue.
Michael is renowned all over the country for his work in theatre. His most recent work includes ‘Man of La Mancha’, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and ‘Jekyll & Hyde’.
Back in 1988 Michael directed ‘Man of La Mancha’ for the St Mary’s Choral Society in Clonmel.
It was then nominated for seven AIMS awards and subsequently won four awards, one of which was for Best Overall Show.
Michael is also a founding member of the Tipperary Musical Society.
The Tipperary Excel Youth Theatre Group, founded in 2015, aims to provide a platform to introduce Tipperary’s youth to theatre and to the enjoyment and benefits of taking to the stage.
