‘Stations of the Cross’ will be screened at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Wednesday, June 3rd at 8pm.

In the film a teenage girl is torn between her strict devotion to her faith and her feelings for a fellow student in ‘Stations of the Cross’, an emotionally captivating and beautifully crafted German drama from writer-director Dietrich Bruggeman.

Maria is a 14-year old girl who lives with her family in a small community which adheres to a very extreme form of Roman Catholicism where everything one thinks or does must be examined before God and self-denial is regarded as essential.

Maria is so devout in her faith that she constantly worries the smallest offence will be seen as a sinful act. However, when she becomes close friends with Christian (Moritz Knapp), a student from another class who introduces her to a love of music, Maria struggles to reconcile her new friendship with the radical beliefs her faith demands of her.

Tickets are priced at €9 (€7 concession and €5 for Film Club members).
