Launch of Fleadh

At the recent Tipperary 2013 Fleadh Meeting, in Riains Ballina, the different events for the festival were nearly finalised. The Launch of Fleadh will be held in Mills, Main Street, Ballina on Saturday 27th April at 8.30p.m.

The Official Opening will take place on Friday night 17th May in Bun Scoil Beal an Atha. The Ceili in Lakeside Hotel on Sunday 12th May with Johnny Reidy Band at 2.30pm. to 5.30p.m. should be a great afternoon. The Awards at the “ Gathering “ will now include Accordionists Bobby Gardiner, Burncourt and Jimmy O’Sullivan, Castleiney, previously we had the late Paddy O’Brien, Jim Lawlor, Michael Cooney, Billy Clifford and Billy Greenall, who all promoted our traditional music overseas.

The closing date for competition entries and fees was last week-end 14th April. Many other events will be run over the week coming up to competitions on Saturday and Sunday, with the Ceili dancing and Set dancing probably on Friday evening. At Cruinniu Bord Chontae in Hayes Hotel, Thurles on Wednesday 10th April it was mostly discussions on Fleadh, An Cisteoir Joe Troy requires outstanding subscriptions for County Fleadh and Fleadh na Mumhan to be sent to him as soon as possible, also all the Fleadh Perpetual Trophies returned to Joe as soon as possible to have them in good shape for presentation this year. An Coiste wishes to congratulate the Newport Branch on achieving All Ireland honours in Plearacha na nOg in Claasac on Saturday 23rd March, well done to Mary, Breda and Cast. A word of thanks to Marion Neville, Murroe/Cappamore for her input. Also congratulations to Roscrea Branch on taking 2nd Place in Plearacha Sinsear on Sunday 24th March, well done to everyone.

Congratulations to talented voilinist Lucia MacPartlin Ormond Branch on adding the International Pan Cheilteach Trophy at the Pan Celtic Festival in Carlow 1st to 6th April to her “ Fiddler of Dooney “ Trophy last year. Lucia is daughter of our County Runai Bairbre and Paul MacPartlin, Ballina. Thrilled for everyone.
