The new Meet and Train Group at the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre Running Track attracted 55 Ladies on its very first night!

The Ladies who came together at the Running Track were welcomed by Centre Chairman, Martin Quinn, who said that they were modelling this initative on the same format as the one that operates very successfully in Clonmel and he thanked Valerie Connolly from South Tipperary Sports Partnership and Niall O’Sullivan from Clonmel A.C. for their assistance in getting it off the ground. He said that he was delighted to see such a turn out and said that he hoped to see it grow and develop.

Ladies of all ages, and of all fitness levels levels, were in attendance and for the first session the group was divided into walkers and joggers/runners. Jos O’Brien, Fitness Instructor at the Centre, took the Ladies through a warm up and some stretching exercises before getting them doing some laps of the track and then Niall O’Sullivan took over and did some further exercises and some further slow and fast laps and the final warm down. All the Ladies that attended expressed their great satisfaction with the first session. Some said that they were happy to “just get out and get some exercise in a sociable environment” and others said that they were delighted to “avail of proper advice and a good training session”.

Ladies are welcome to join the group at any time. You just need to come along to the Running Track on a Tuesday evening at 7pm with your E2 admittance fee. Over the coming months also there will be a series of talks on the various aspects of fitness and also on proper walking/running footwear.
