Paddy O’Brien Weekend

A TRADITIONAL music weekend honouring the great Paddy O’Brien, and raising funds for the North Tipperary Hospice Homecare Movement, will take place this coming weekend in Newtown, Portroe and Garrykennedy.

A TRADITIONAL music weekend honouring the great Paddy O’Brien, and raising funds for the North Tipperary Hospice Homecare Movement, will take place this coming weekend in Newtown, Portroe and Garrykennedy.

The event kicks off on Friday, March 11, at 9pm with a singing session hosted by Nenagh woman Nora Butler in Larkins of Garrykennedy.

On Saturday, the focus switches to Portroe where Kieran O’Hanrahan of RTE’s Ceili House will be fear a’ ti. The music starts at 7.30pm and features many well-known musicians, including locals Deirdre and Michael Scanlan, Niamh Chadwick, Paddy Ryan, Deirdre McSherry, Nora Butler, members of the Ormond Ceili Band and John Connolly and Tom Lawlor. There will also be dancing led by Conor Hartnett and Michael Cooney.

The weekend switches to Reidy’s Skyfarmers Bar in Newtown on Sunday for the launch of Nora Butler’s new CD, My Home Lies In Tipperary, by Sen Labhras O Murchu of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, at 4pm. Special guests at the launch will by Mick Foster, Eileen O’Brien, Mark Kelly and Deirdre McSherry.
