Roads, footpaths and public lighting have taken a severe bashing in Thurles over the past six weeks or so with the heavy snow, flooding and then freezing conditions taking their toll.
While the town did not suffer to the same extent as many of the roads further out in the country, there was, nonetheless, a lengthy list of problem areas presented to officials of the Thurles Council at the February monthly meeting on Monday evening last.

The council's outdoor staff has been run off it's feet in recent weeks dealing with water issues as well as repairs to roads and footpaths - they also had to remove the Christmas lighting for good measure. And, it looks as though their very busy period is set to continue judging by the amount of difficulties reported by elected members with Thurles Town Clerk Mr Michael Ryan, and Town Manager Mr Matt Shortt taking note of the problems.

As is the case throughout the county, funding is going to be the big issue for the Town Council when it comes to repairing the damaged roads and paths. It seems as though patching will be the order of the day though as any major reconstruction work will have to be put on the long finger.
